Kamal Boullata

Artist and art historian whose abstract geometric paintings explored themes of exile and identity through Islamic and Byzantine artistic traditions. His silkscreen works drew on the angular Kufic script and the geometry of the Dome of the Rock, rooted in a childhood spent in Jerusalem's Christian Quarter. His works are held by the British Museum, and Barjeel Art Foundation.
